1. How Horizon Lasik Works
A protective flap is created with the Microkeratome then lifted to expose the central layer of the cornea. Refractive power of the cornea is changed, with the precision of the Excimer Laser. The protective flap is laid back in position over the treated area.

2. Microkeratome
The Microkeratome is a precision instrument that allows the surgeon to create a protective flap under which the cornea is treated with the laser

3. Making the protective flap
Your eye is numbed with drops. Then a Microkeratome, stabilized by gentle suction, is placed on the surface and passed across the cornea, creating a protective flap about one-third the cornea's depth. During this portion of the procedure you will experience some blurriness and possibly a pressure sensation, but you will not feel any pain.

4. Accessing the treatment area
The Microkeratome is removed from the eye and the surgeon gently lifts the flap aside using a smooth tipped instrument.

5. Reshaping with the Laser
The excimer laser beam, after being pre-programmed for the appropriate correction, is applied to the corneal bed. Laser energy is generated to reshape your cornea. You will not feel any pain.

6. Preparing the treatment area
After lifting the hinged flap aside, the corneal bed is inspected for smoothness, gently cleaned and moistened slightly to prepare it for the application of the Excimer Laser.

7. Laying back of the protective flap
At the end of the laser treatment your corneal flap is gently replaced and carefully aligned back into its original position.
