Testing Procedures
    • Topography - a mapping of the cornea, shows curvatures of the cornea and also assists in detecting eye diseases.
    • Keratometry - measures the shape and curvature of the cornea and helps to determine the presence and /or amount of astigmatism.
    • Fundus Exam - Our physician examines your lens and retina to ensure it is healthy.
    • Slit lamp exam - this is the microscope, which helps determine the health of the cornea. The tonometer on the microscope is how we measure the amount of pressure in your eyes to rule out glaucoma.
    • Pachymeter - this measure the thickness of your cornea

Pupil size in the dark is very important when looking at whether or not you are a candidate for Horizon LASIK. Once we have obtained accurate measurements and ensured overall healthiness of the eye,  the next step is to simply schedule a date for Horizon Lasik. Manny can help you with that, including directions. We will then see you in our accredited surgery center.

What is a WaveScan® and a WavePrint® Map?

WaveScan technology provides a measurement and a visual representation of your vision based on the behavior of light waves. It compares light passing through your eye to the same light pattern from an eye that needs no vision correction. The WavePrint Map is the output of the WaveScan, it captures the unique imperfections of a person's visual path.

What to Expect

We tell our patients to expect to be at the laser center for 1-2 hours. During this time, you will be handing in your consent forms, taking medication to relax you, and a small talk about what to expect during and after the procedure. You will be given a special post-op packet with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops, lubricating drops and protective goggles. You will also receive a pair of darker sunglasses that protect you from sunrays on all sides of the eye (your eye may be light sensitive for a few days).

The actual procedure takes approximately 15 minutes for both eyes. Dr. Howard Gross is wonderful at helping you relax during the entire process. Rest assured you are in the safe hands of an excellent, well-experienced surgeon.

Following the surgery, you relax in one of the rooms and shortly after, our doctors will follow-up and make sure everything is proceeding smoothly. With his final "OK", you are able to go home.

A friend should be driving you home where you should get some rest. We suggest you go home and sleep for a few hours. The next day, you should be able to return to work, however, you need a follow-up visit with one of our doctors that day.
