Howard J. Gross, M.D.

Gross, M.D.| Manahawkin | MargateCertified as a Diplomat by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Howard Gross established Horizon Eye Care in 1994 and has since provided comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, including the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma and diabetes. In addition to his over 20 years of practice experience, Dr. Gross is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is a clinical research investigator for surgical product advancements seeking FDA approval.

He graduated from George Washington Medical School and completed his ophthalmology training at University of California, Davis. Dr. Gross served as an Emergency Room Director at Kirkland Air Force Base before beginning his practice in South Jersey.  He has performed thousands of cataract surgeries and refractive procedures and was the first physician bringing LASIK to the area.  In 2005, Dr. Gross took the lead in offering advanced multifocal lens implants, providing patients more alternatives for reducing their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Gross examines patients in the Margate, Galloway and Manahawkin offices and is proud to have constructed the area's first nationally-accredited ambulatory eye surgery center to help patients achieve clear, healthy vision. He often says: "The greatest gift is when a patient comes back ecstatic with how well their vision has improved!" He spends his leisure time reading, golfing, biking, pursuing his love of aviation and most importantly spending time with his family.

Matthew K. Perez, MD, PhD

Perez joined the practice in 2007 after completing his training at Thomas Jefferson Medical University and Temple University Hospital, where he was chief ophthalmology resident. Dr. Perez also holds a doctoral degree in pharmacology from the University of Pennsylvania.

As a general ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon, Dr. Perez treats all eye conditions from vision problems, to cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease, as well as performing the most advanced laser and surgical procedures, including Advanced Intraocular Lens Replacement, Lasik and other types of refractive surgery. He cares for patients in the Egg Harbor Township, Ocean City and Margate offices.

Joel A. Spielberg, M.D.

He had been in private practice in Northfield and Galloway until 1996, when he joined Dr. Howard Gross to form Horizon Eye Care. He is a board-certified general ophthalmologist who treats patients with all types of eye problems from cataracts and glaucoma; to eye injuries; to children with special eye care needs.

Dr. Spielberg cares for patients in the Galloway Township, Margate and Manahawkin offices. Born and raised in New York, he completed his residency at the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York.

Dr. Spielberg is committed to the Southern New Jersey area, having raised three children and participating in many community activities in the local area. He enjoys horseback riding and is a nationally ranked in the sport of fencing.

Robert F. Nunn, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Ophthalmologist Galloway | Dr. Joel A. Spielberg, M.D.| Manahawkin | MargateDr. Nunn is a general ophthalmologist who treats diseases of the eye, including caring for patients with glaucoma. He has been practicing with Horizon Eye Care since 1998. Prior to that, he maintained a private practice in Ocean City and Cape May Court House for more than 20 years.

A graduate of University of Pennsylvania and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dr. Nunn maintains affiliations with Shore Memorial Hospital and Horizon Laser & Eye Surgery Center. He served as Chief of Ophthalmology services at Shore Memorial Hospital for many years.

Dr. Nunn cares for patients in the Ocean City and Cape May Court House offices. He is committed to providing the highest quality eye care to the people of Southern New Jersey. In his leisure time, Dr. Nunn enjoys being a private pilot and fly-fishing.

Sunir J. Garg, MD

Garg, MD | Manahawkin | MargateDr. Sunir Garg received both his Bachelor of Science with honors and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Inteflex program. He completed his internship at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan and returned to the University of Michigan for his residency in Ophthalmology, where he was appointed Chief Resident. During his residency, Dr. Garg was voted Teacher of the Year and also received the LaBerge award for research excellence. He attended Wills Eye Hospital for his retina fellowship and became an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Garg then returned to Philadelphia to join the staff of Wills Eye Institute and Lankenau Hospital as a vitreo-retinal surgeon.

Dr. Garg is board certified in Ophthalmology and is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Garg is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is an active member of the Retina Society, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Dr. Garg has been invited to speak both nationally and internationally at numerous universities, hospitals, society meetings and other notable events. Dr. Garg serves as principal investigator on several major national and international clinical trials. He has authored numerous papers and book chapters, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for a number of prestigious journals. He is also a consultant to the American College of Physicians, the Merck Manual, and the Wills Eye Manual. He is editor and co-editor of two forthcoming textbooks on retinal diseases.

Dr. Garg has been the course director for a vitreoretinal surgery course at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and recently received an award from the American Retina Foundation for his research on macular degeneration.

His clinical interests include advanced treatments for diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, complex retinal detachments, retinal vascular diseases, surgical diseases of the macula and retina, and ocular inflammation. Dr. Garg is listed among "The Best Ophthalmologists" in the United States and is an Official Team Doctor of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Omesh P. Gupta, MD, MBA

Gupta, MD, MBA is a Board Certified ophthalmologist who graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics.  He was then the first graduate of the combined 5-year MD/MBA program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration.  He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine with Distinction in Research and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Sciences Management.

Dr. Gupta completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Institute where he selected by his peers and attending staff to serve as Chief Resident.  As a vitreoretinal fellow, he was awarded two prestigious national honors, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award and the Ronald G. Michels Retinal Fellowship Foundation Award.  He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society, Society of Heed Fellows, Wills Eye Hospital Society, and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

His clinical interests include advanced treatments for age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, macular pucker, diabetic retinopathy complications, complex retinal detachments, complications of cataract surgery, retinal vascular disease, and ocular infection and inflammation.  His research interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, vitreoretinal surgery, teleophthalmology, and value-based medicine.

Dr. Ophthalmologist Galloway | Dr. Mitchel A. Lautenberg, M.D. | Manahawkin | MargateMitchel Lautenberg received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. He is a graduate with honors of the UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, NJ. Dr. Lautenberg served his medical internship at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY and completed his residency in ophthalmology at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary in New York City. He then completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, followed by a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.

Dr. Lautenberg was in private practice in New York City prior to joining the Ocean Eye Institute and then Horizon Eye Care in the Margate office. Dr. Lautenberg is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2005 he was recognized as a Top Oculoplastic Surgeon by "NJ Monthly".

Dean N. Shissias, O.D.

Optometrist Galloway | Dr. Dean N. Shissias, O.D | Manahawkin | MargateDr. Dean (as he likes to be called) joined Horizon Eye Care in 1999 after fifteen years of private practice throughout the area. He is an optometrist, providing general eye care with emphasis on contact lenses to the Horizon Eye Care patients in Margate, Galloway and English Creek. In addition to general optometric training, Dr Dean is licensed to prescribe therapeutic medications to his patients.

Dr. Shissias regularly volunteers his care to The New Jersey State Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He is an area resident who enjoys golfing and going to the beach.

Andrea J. Mazur, O.D.

Dr. Mazur is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She is committed to providing outstanding eye care for patients in the Egg Harbor Township and Ocean City locations. As a primary care optometrist, she helps patients with their glasses, contacts, and surgical options for Lasik and cataracts. She is therapeutically licensed to treat eye disease.

She and her husband have 2 young children and like to spend their leisure time with them. She also enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and traveling to visit family and friends.

Diann M. Ryan, O.D.

Optometrist Galloway | Dr. Diann M. Ryan, O.D | Manahawkin | MargateDr. Ryan joined Horizon Eye Care after several years of private practice in Lakehurst, New Jersey. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The New England College of Optometry in Boston. Dr. Ryan provides comprehensive eye examinations, including the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. Dr. Ryan offers contact lens care in addition to the evaluation for advanced lens procedures and laser refractive procedures in the Manahawkin and Galloway offices. Dr. Ryan is also the preceptor for our Optometric Student Externship program. For the convenience of her patients she is available in the evenings as well as Saturday.

Dr. Ryan is a New Jersey native, enjoys traveling and outdoor sports particularly running, biking and kayaking. Dr. Ryan completed the Philadelphia marathon in 2007 and participates in the Broadstreet Run and SheRox triathlon for cancer research every year.

Jill J. Rodio-Vivadelli, OD

Optometrist Galloway | Dr. Jill J. Rodio-Vivadelli, OD | Manahawkin | MargateDr. Jill Rodio-Vivadelli completed a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology at The College of New Jersey. Her optometric studies were completed at the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City, where she graduated second in her class with a Doctorate of Optometry in 2004. Dr. Vivadelli trained at Philadelphia Veteran's Medical Center, Omni New Jersey Eye Specialists and SUNY Optometric Center. She was the recipient of various graduation awards and distinctions, including Esther J. Werner Memorial Award for Academic Excellence. Upon graduation, she completed a fellowship program in cornea and contact lenses in New York City, which provided advanced training in specialty contact lens fitting and refractive surgery.

Dr. Vivadelli currently resides in Hammonton with her husband, son and daughter. When not in the office, she enjoys playing the piano, tennis, skiing, running, and relaxing at the beach with her family. She has been an active participant in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk for over ten years.
